This four minutes of video game footage was more impressive to me than the bulk of the prequels. I mean, holy cow. And yes, John, I think it more visually impressive than Star Trek. But not as funny. (;

Bah. Seriously I never can get excited by the looks of these things. It looks like a video game. Big deal. Yes I know that puts me firmly into a minority. But what else is new? JMN

Every year they get better.
Why, soon, John, you'll be able to get more Trek with Shatner in his prime. (;

Earlier in his prime.
Pre-Emmy at least.

I have said that a really good animated series could be made of TOS. It would be a bone for the canonistas for sure.

Okay, I stand corrected. I finally got a chance to watch the whole thing and it is slick. Still not as good as Star Trek though. But it would be groovy to have a TOS animated series of that quality. JMN

I always thought these games were the only thing carrying on for the old movies, quality-wise.

Well these games certainly kept the franchise alive during our 15 years in the wilderness.

Sorry, but I am now Star Wars'd out. Lucas destroyed the whole thing with his silly prequels and endless marketing.

I remember there was this guy once upon a time who had a great vision and beat Hollywood at the its game to get Star Wars produced in 1977 against some pretty heavy odds. I have not paid attention to this man since the 90's.
I only know of the huge universe of work that, while clearly inspired by Star Wars, is so much better than anything Lucas might have written himself that it's almost unrecognizable. (Most of) the novels, the Dark Horse Comics, the video game series-- hell even the Clone Wars cartoon puts Lucas' high-budget-B-movie "prequels" to shame. I can easily ignore the crap that George tried to foist on fans with all of that to choose from.
As an aside, I just rented Fanboys (yes it FINALLY came out). Pretty funny. I especially loved how -- after following these guys through their epic journey for their love of all things Star Wars -- the very last line is "What if the movie sucks?" and cuts to black.

Yeah as a long time Star Trek fan I know far too well this scenario as it relates to Gene Roddenberry.
And I really need to see Fanboys.

Le argh!
I haven't been an apologist for the prequels ever since Episode III came out and stunned me with its awfulness, but it's definitely a pet peeve of mine when people point to video games or stuff like The Clone Wars and say "Wow, this is better than what George Lucas is doing right now!"
You guys. I hate to sound like a whiner, but frankly that's just not fair. Pick apart the prequels' flaws all you want (because Lord knows there just isn't enough of that on the Internet), but there's a lot that the filmmakers had to do that goes unappreciated. They had to tell complete stories that filled out two hours, with all that pesky stuff like characterization, world-building, pacing, etc.
The original (Tartakovsky) Clone Wars cartoons were each like 3-5 minutes long and pretty much all of them revolved around fight scenes and/or explosions; the intro for this new game looks cool but it rips off heavily from The Matrix more than once and nobody's gonna complain if the acting/plot/whatever are a little shallow, because Hey, it's just a video game, right? And neither one of them (or any piece of Extended Universe media for that matter) would exist in the first place if it weren't borrowing off the accumulated cool that are thanks to George Lucas & co.
Cheap-o, flashy stuff like this is going to come off much cooler in comparison because it's nothing BUT gravy. When people say that "[EU Media X] is sooooo much better than anything SW in the last 26 years!" it reminds me of the little kid who thinks that the babysitter who eats pizza and watches DVDs with him for two hours a week is way cooler than the mom who cares for the kid the other 99% of the time and enforces bedtimes/bathing/vegetable eating/etc.

Why was it decided that the uniform of the Jedi was a brown bathrobe? Couldn't someone have come up with something more stylish since Obi Wan and Yoda of the first trilogy?
